When you need a stronger form of acne medicine that is when simple treatments do have any effect on the infected areas, the doctor may prescribe oral anti-biotic together with other forms of treatments for your acne. If the acne is really big, the doctor may choose to drain them and put you on oral anti-biotic for several days. In most of these cases, severe acne will take a while to cure which is about 6 to 8 weeks before the inflammation on your skin goes away.

Acne medicine may be a way to cure your acne, however, severe acne may leave scars when the acne finally disappears. Most times, these scars can be successfully removed through laser treatment.
